So now I am off work for the weekend, and it is the first weekend after a demo. I will be doing some major biking this weekend. I should be heading out soon, as soon as the last of my biking pictures are uploaded to the server, so I can add them to the photo album.

The net now and days

It is nice now that one can get all kinds of PHP programs for ones site, and all one has to worry about is providing content. I have just added a photo section to my web site (www.mikeoconnor.net/Photos) and I don’t have to worry about how to get the format now, all I have to is dump a bunch of them to the server and the program to batch add them to the albums. I partly miss the days where there were not as many prewritten tools, but when I look at what can be done now I am glad we are not in those days. The question now is what other nice programs are out there that I might want to put on my site. Yes I know that 2 new additions to my site (well not so new to this one, but new in the continual change of sites I have had were I have just moved it from one server to the next) are done at other sites that have free logins, but I rather do it on my own site, even if I don’t know PHP and am using other people tools.

Day after the Demo

Ok so this is the day after the demo, I am still wanting to hear from my boss who it went. I destroyed my sleep schedule during the demo, but I have put it back on track, I am surprised I did it in one night, I sleep straight though the night, and still got to work early*. Now is the time to clean off my desk of all the cans of diet coke (mmmm caffeine). This coming Saterday I am going to bike for about 4 maybe 6 hours to unwind, the question is should I bike in the city or should I drive out to one of the bike trails, I am thinking about the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail. The Great Allegheny Passage is suppose to make it into the city some day, I hope soon it would be nice to start in Pittsburgh and end up in places unknown.

Ok, so now I am at the office, going to go get some food with a friend (yes at 1:05 am in the morning) but my boss has to demo the program I am working on tomorrow. So I have a list of stuff she wants done, but I have mailed her with some questions about one of them, and I think I fixed a few of them as of now. So I am wanting for a respond from her to see what needs to be done next. Last Email I got from her is labeled 11pm. So I don’t think I am going to get another one tonight. But I am going to push though and do more testing to make sure it all is working fine. But I first going to get some trash food at Taco Bell.

Java How I hate it

Well the demo for vista is tomorrow, and there was a feature my boss asked to be put in, so I spend a few hours working in java to get it done. It now works. But since it was java, it took me longer then if it was C++ or C for me to work in. But java is very very picky one how you set data, I tried to set the value of a matrix element, but then I started to get exceptions because it was changed in an unknown source. So I had to search around for the approved java way of setting an element in a matrix. But if it not allowed to be set by refereeing it and using the = operator, they why does not the language complain when you try to compile it? Also why can I not play with pointers in java. But now that I finished that portion of the code I can go back to the core of the program which is done in my favorite language C++.

Well my friend in Ohio put up a blog, I kind of think she did it because of mine. But you can see it at Here at http://www.livejournal.com/users/pualanijo She is a very nice person, I would like to drive up to meet her some day, if I can ever find the time. I first meet Trish in Thrivents chat room, I have not been able to get there as much as I would like to, but she and I keep in touch via IM and Phone.

Palm Pilot

I finally did it, My palm died 3 weeks ago and I have been forgetting things left and right, I am going to get the old one fixed, but that is going to take a while, so I went out and got the Tungsten T3. When the T2 comes back I will keep it for backup. But I am now thinking can I get a blogging software for the Palm Pilot. The Palm has Bluetooth and so does my cell phone, and I get unlimited data, so I can hit the net anywhere I can get cell signal. Which in theory means I could post from anywhere (if there is good software for it) I am not so cheap that it has to be free I am willing to pay for it if it is good software.

But the T3 is a nice device, lots of room in memory to work with, not so sure I like the virtual graffiti area. But the landscape mode is nice for the web browsing on the device. Software updates I like is that they finally added categories to the date book, I do not like the agenda view, of course I been using palm pilots since 2000 and so use to the day view that it could just be inertia that keeps me at the day view of the calamities.

Why do spammers think they can get away with spamming every place they see. I had to delete 2 comments that were spam, one was for spam for a sex site. SPAMMERS this site if rated PG (maybe PG-13 at the most) I don’t want to see X rated stuff posted here. I guess I am going to have to keep an eye on the posts here. I welcome posts but, I don’t want spam, and I feel that censorship is OK, so if I see a spam post I will be deleting it.

Ok so I found a new program to add entries to my blog. One feature of it (this is for you Trish) it has a built in spell checker. So lets see how it goes, and if anything good can come of it, also the last question is does any one really care about my blog??? Maybe I do some entries with pictures I have taken as of late.

How many Lutherans does it take to break into a car?

Well today we found it took 7 Lutherans, one being one of my Pastors. How you might ask, well I locked my keys in my car (ok so I had an id10t moment). Well it took seven of us to get in, and 2 hours. We used 2 coat hangers and 2 crowbars!! I am just glad that the car was on, or this would not have worked, we finally decided instead of unlocking the car with the coat hangers, we would open the window. So with me creating a gap between the car frame and the door with the 2 crowbars, pastor pushes the coat hanger to the window control, and opens the window, ya we get in.

So the short answer is 7, with 2 hours, 2 coat hangers, and 2 crowbars.

Hay I learned a new (useless) skill today. 😉

And I am not referring to the prez of the US. I am talking about the prez of the LCMS. The bad news is that the liberals won almost all of the positions :-(. Well lets see what happens now. I would love to have seen the confessional Lutherans win, and take the Synod back to where it should be, The Lutheran Confessions. Oh well, maybe next year if things do not go to far down hill.

I spent the day going from 1 house to the next. I attended 2 house warming, 1 house blessing, and the birthday of a child of a family in the parish. so you don’t think I went to 4 homes, it was only 2. the first was a house blessing and a house warming, the next was to be house warming, the child’s 1st birthday and a house blessing, but Kathy got sick so we did not do the blessing. So it was a long day (see my other post coming up for the humor today)

Any one reading this blog, know about good web design, I am going to see if I can redo a new site for my church. (www.FirstTrinity.net) I am a programmer, and don’t think much of users. Hell I think bash is the greatest UI there is, so you know where I am thinking for web design, hell look at the rest of my site ;-). And suggestions and pointers to links would be appreciated. I will probably do some work in it tomorrow after we get home from Idlewild, I also have to get the new calendar up.
