DVR and older Hockey games

Back on the 16th of this month I had my DVR record the Vancouver Canucks vs the Dallas Stars. And I just watched it today. It was a good game, during the second period of the game the two teams go into some really good hockey. There was a good amount of time where there was just a pitched battle over the puck, no stop in play, just back and forth a few shots on goal, I was out of my seat during that time period. I will have to say that the Canucks and the Stars will be two teams to watch this year.
So far I am looking to watch the games of following teams

  • Penguins (mainly because they are my home team and I still remember fondly them from back in the early 90’s when they were a great team, but so far this year they have not won at all, and I don’t foresee the losing streak ending soon. Please Penguins prove me wrong here)
  • Coyotes (I really want to see where Gretzky will take the team)
  • Canucks
  • Stars (after seeing that game from the 16th I wonder what they are going to do this year)

Also I was right in this post that I put up between 2nd and 3rd period that the pens would lose the game, but it does not take a genus to know that, with they way they are playing and how far they were down, it was a given.

Well at the current time (8:45pm) the hockey game is in the second intermission, and they only have the 3rd period to go. I am going to go out on a limb here, and I am going to say I think the Penguins will loss again today. I can say this with some form of confidence, since they are down 5 to 1.

Tropical Storm Alpha

We finally made it, we have Tropical Storm Alpha. Cool this is our 22 named storm of the season. I wonder how many more we can get, the end of the season is at the end of November. This storm is very close to Wilma, and they will get closer as time goes by. I wonder what would happen if 2 storms ever meet up, would they rip each other apart, or would they join up, I would bet that they would rip each other apart.

Todays WPLUG was a good one, Bill gave his talk on SOAP. I will have to say it was a good talk, and I think I will want to look into SOAP a bit more. Also I gave my talk on Linux in the non-profit organization, I think it was well received, I had a few questions after I gave my presentation, I will admit I was nervous as all get out while giving the talk.
Also Mark Rauterkus was there. Very nice guy. A few of the people at WPLUG ended up talking a bit about politics in the city of Pittsburgh, pretty good talk I would have to say.

Other subjects that were discussed was future meetings, he have a few talks lined up for the next couple of months, but WPLUG does always welcome more speakers, if you have an open source presentation you should contact WPLUG about giving it.

Fox Sports is running an article on Paul Coffey is retiring, and they retired his original Number (#7). Paul Coffey played for the Penguins I think when he played for the Penguins his number was 77. I remember being at the game where he got his 1000th point in the NHL. He was my favorite player.

An odd bike tire blow out

Last night I biked up to my friends game night. After I had been there for 1 or 2 hours, with the bike just sitting outside, we hear this loud popping noise. I bikes tire had just popped, and this tire was just put on last month, and had no patches on it. Well when I took it apart, it popped where the valve came out of the tube itself, is where the failure point was. It just does not make much since, because the tire pressure was set at 80psi, and the tires are rated from 55psi to 85psi. The bike was sitting out in the cold, so the air should have been contracting so the pressure should have gone down a bit, yet the tire popped.

One of my friends from work, Patrick Wagstrom, had a game night at his house, with some of his friends from his church. He also invited me. It was a good time, played a few good games, and meet some new people. I should have a game night at my APT some time in the future again. I don’t have that many games, but I have a few so I probably could get something going.

The election is on Nov 5, 2005. If you are a member I would encourage you to be there, if you can not be there I would encourage you to get an absentee ballot so you can still vote.
When the Nominations are posted I will like to them.

The Penguins game

What a game. Sadly I was wrong (When I said I think the Pens would win by 1 point) the Pens lost 5-6. But there was this goal that was just unbelievable, face off at center ice, Talbot won a face off (score was 4-5) he fired the puck to the other side of the ice, the Flyers goalie was not paying attention and the puck went in to the goal, tied the game at 5-5. Near the game, the Flyers fired a shot that should had been a goal but our goalie (Caron) made an incredible save, it was not the main shot, the main shot bounced of the right goal post, but a Flyer made a second shot that Caron saved just before it went over the line. Even the gaol judge thought it was a goal, it had to be reviewed. The Pens did not win, but it still was a great game.

I have a friend that has never seen a game, and this was the first game he ever saw, so it was a good game for him to see. Also I had my pastor over and he though it was a good game.
