The final update about the gateway laptop’s hard drive
It has finally finished the bad block scan of the hard drive on the gateway laptop the finally total of usable space is 2713940 usable blocks out of 29302528 blocks. Next for the shear masochistic fun of it, I am going to install Linux on it, and do a stress test of it, and see how fast I can cause it to come crashing down on itself.
Why
Why do I spend so much time on Slashdot? It is fun at times, but for the most part it’s sophomoric for the most part. I should start trying to wean my self of Slashdot. It is in my best interest. But for some reason I always go back to it, it is like it is some sort of sick addiction. I think all I really want is a good discussion board that I can hang out. Before I hung out a Slashdot I would hang out at the boards over at MSNBC, they had a very good technology BB there. I do miss those BBs over at MSNBC. If any one know of a good technology board please post a link here for me to look at, and maybe I could spend time there instead of Slashdot.

Either google is going to change how things are done
Either google is going to do a update to how they do searches, or they got lost on my site, or the googlebot really loves my site. For fun I have been checking the cache of my site a google every day, and it seems to be updated once a day! I wonder if being put on Slashdot (and hence a lot of other sites that mirror Slashdot) had something to do with this. The question is how will this affect my page rank at google, as of now it is 3/10, hay not bad for a vanity site. But hay still #1 result for the search of my name “Michael P. O’Connor”.
The boxes continue to attack
I keep moving boxes out of my place, boxes full of stuff. I did not realize I had so much stuff. Looking at the apartment I still don’t know where I kept it all. I have found some off site storage till moving day. And I have almost filled up that place with boxes and all kind of stuff. And yet I will have trouble getting around my place since there is still too much stuff here. The new place I am moving to should be a lot better then this place since the main room is a lot larger then the whole of my current apartment, and the new place still has a separate bedroom!!! I should be good for a few years there.
A bit of moving the computers around
Today (tonight) I figured I needed to move some of my computers around. I put the windows box next to the Linux box. I did this because I use x2vnc to control the windows box mainly, but having them on 2 different desks meant that I had to turn around when I started to use the windows box. So I took the eMac off of the desk that has the Linux LCD, and put the windows LCD here along with a few other things, I then moved the eMac over to where the windows box use to reside. I just can not do x2vnc on the Mac box, vnc on the Mac is still not up to par in the speed area, the mouse would just jerk around the screen. Now I have the 1 keyboard and mouse for both the Linux box and the windows box. They are connected to the Linux box and then jump to the windows box over the network when I need to control the windows box.

Milk
Milk does not last long in my place, I just bought a 1/2 gallon yesterday, and well I finished it off today. And I want some milk right now. maybe I should buy by the gallon instead of 1/2 gallons.

This is a pain
Right now some one decided that they did not want to talk on their cell phone in the office, so now they are in the hall, and talking very loudly, I don’t care about the car trouble that the person that they are talking to is having. I will people would have more courtesy when they talk on their cell phones, or that she only has $100 for the rest of the month. and she seams to just be getting louder and louder, why does she not just shut up. The stupid of people on cell phones have gotten out of hand, I have now seen in stores signs asking people to please not talk on the phone when they are being waited on.
I am not against cell phones, I just wish people would use their head when they are on them.
Talk shows
I think I am becoming a talk show junkie. There are 2 talk shows I just hate missing. And I enjoy listening to talk shows in general, it is the only radio I can stand now. If I want music I will listen to my music collection, I will never don’t listen to music on the radio. The 2 talk shows I like are Issue Etc. on KFUO out of St. Louis, at 4:05pm EST available over the Internet and my second favorite is Rush Limbaugh
Google and blogs
In the age of blogging, their searches have returned some interesting stuff. Just today I was looking at a list of were people come from when they come to my web site. And one was from a search on google for banning Russian IP address. For some reason I was the 8th hit. It saw the entry on Banned IP address because of spammers, and it also saw on the side of the page a link to my friends blog “John in Russia”. I see some day google will move known blogs out of their main index and maybe setup a new index just for blogs. Also I would guess that maybe they will make it possible to search and remove blogs out of the results. I have had problems with my own blog showing up in searches I do, but it make sense I am searching for things I am interested in and my blog about them too. So it only make sense that I should find my own site on google when I search for stuff.
A funny juxtaposition
Today as I was giving my pastors a lift to the airport, and on the drive out I saw the following 2 bumper stickers on the same car. The first was “Hate is not a family value” the second was a kerry sticker. The funny part is that the majority of the kerry base is built on hate, Hatred for Bush. So to see those 2 stickers next each other was a funny juxtaposion.
Looks like I am still getting slashdot Visitors
The traffic has died down a bit, but I still see that the traffic is higher then usual. I wonder how many are just stragglers, how many are return visits because they like it, and how many are returning trolls. Over the last few days I been getting trolls in the responses, which I have deleted. Well if there are some true new readers that like the site welcome, enjoy your stay and thanks for comming.
