I have been reading a lot of news stories off of the BBC about the violence in France. The way the BBC is reporting it, you would think that right now that there is more violence in France right now then in Iraq.

I just got back from hanging with some friends, we watched “The never ending story”. We got to talking about movies from the 80’s. The 80’s had some good movies. Some other good movies from the 80’s include:

  • Tron
  • SpaceBalls
  • Labyrinth

Another good (but stupid) movie is “Killer Klowns from outer space”. The 80’s was a good decades to grow up in.

C-Net is running an artical on a bill in the house that failed. the bill was a good one, it would have codified that blogs are free expresion, and therefor immunize bloggers from campain fincance reform, the democrates want to regulate what is said on blogs. We might not be able to link to canidates, that we support, web sites.

Email is nearly dead

Thanks to sites like sorbs and things like spam, email will soon be dead. When you need email, but you don’t get it because it comes though a sever that sorbs lists (rightly or wrongly) email can no longer be trusted as a communication source. I had to move all my yahoo groups subscriptions to my ISP’s email account, instead of using my email on my web hosting company. If comcast blocks based on sorbs I will have to find some email provider (and I would be willing to pay) that does not block based on the inaccurate information (listing mailing lists that people willing subscribed to as spam, case in point yahoo groups) in sorbs. But it is now only a matter of time before email dies, thanks to both spam, and sorbs (and sorbs like scams)

Sorbs lists mailling list servers as spam servers

Sorbs has started to list yahoo groups’ servers as a spam server, so either they don’t like yahoo, or they don’t check the servers they list as spam servers, I bet MSN likes that, just add the competition to the list. And unfortunately my hosting company uses them as a anti-spam list, so now I am a victim of sorbs, I contacted all 3, my hosting company says they will look into it, but that was 2 weeks ago, I contacted yahoo, but all I got was a form reply, and Sorbs, basically said f*** you. I would love to see Sorbs go away, they don’t even do basic homework when they list a server.

For the last week or so I can not get many stations. It is not like I have a bad antenna I have 450 feet worth of antenna. I should be pulling in the world, but I just have not been getting anything this week. I use to get almost every thing From Radio Korea to Radio Sweden; I have changed nothing, so I just want to figure out what the heck has gone wrong. I have heard talk about the Ionosphere acting up, I wonder if there is much truth to that talk, and if so if that is what I am getting hit with.

South Park on UPN

UPN has started to show South Park on it channel. And here in Pittsburgh I was watching one, it is the one where they people become atheists and start to shove food up their buts and crap out of their mouth. I will admit not the greatest stuff, but a bit funny. But I had a friend over today and we were watching it, and when the parts come out that have a person crapping out of their mouth they have been blacking it out with the following statement: “The scene of crapping out of his mouth has been removed for your protection” me and my friend both said what the fsck. Why would they edit it out? I don’t see how this could 1) be a violation of any of the FCC laws 2) how is it for our protection, just stupid. Yet they used other words I would find more offensive then showing people crapping out of their mouth, I am not going to complain about the language, I am just saying.

The W3YJ repeater has linked up to echo link to the Hurricane net in monitor mode. This will allow us to listen to it, and still retain the use of the repeater if we need to. So if you are a ham or have a scanner tune to 443.45 to hear the news of Hurricane Wilma as it happens.

Why are shows like “COPS” so popular

Wired is running an article on how the book “Police Call” is ending its publication run. They made a comment in it that I never really thought of. Scanning of the “Public Safety” bands was just the precursor to shows like COPS. It looks like TV has hurt another hobby.
The show “COPS” just puts on TV what once was enjoyed on a scanning radio.
I do enjoy scanning the Pittsburgh Police, EMS, and Fire freqs.

DVR and older Hockey games

Back on the 16th of this month I had my DVR record the Vancouver Canucks vs the Dallas Stars. And I just watched it today. It was a good game, during the second period of the game the two teams go into some really good hockey. There was a good amount of time where there was just a pitched battle over the puck, no stop in play, just back and forth a few shots on goal, I was out of my seat during that time period. I will have to say that the Canucks and the Stars will be two teams to watch this year.
So far I am looking to watch the games of following teams

  • Penguins (mainly because they are my home team and I still remember fondly them from back in the early 90’s when they were a great team, but so far this year they have not won at all, and I don’t foresee the losing streak ending soon. Please Penguins prove me wrong here)
  • Coyotes (I really want to see where Gretzky will take the team)
  • Canucks
  • Stars (after seeing that game from the 16th I wonder what they are going to do this year)

Also I was right in this post that I put up between 2nd and 3rd period that the pens would lose the game, but it does not take a genus to know that, with they way they are playing and how far they were down, it was a given.

Well at the current time (8:45pm) the hockey game is in the second intermission, and they only have the 3rd period to go. I am going to go out on a limb here, and I am going to say I think the Penguins will loss again today. I can say this with some form of confidence, since they are down 5 to 1.

We finally made it, we have Tropical Storm Alpha. Cool this is our 22 named storm of the season. I wonder how many more we can get, the end of the season is at the end of November. This storm is very close to Wilma, and they will get closer as time goes by. I wonder what would happen if 2 storms ever meet up, would they rip each other apart, or would they join up, I would bet that they would rip each other apart.
