For the last few years I have been off the air. And recently decided to get back on the air (Amature Radio) This was persipitated when my old car (a Scion IQ) died, the computer of it got fried. So I had to get a new car. With the change of the car I took my mobile radios out of the old car. I put them in the new car, and had to get some new attena’s for the new car. I went to HRO over in Woodbridge VA. While there I saw a Yaesu VX-6R, I remember back in the mid-2000’s when it came out I wanted one, but never got one, they had it for $240 with a $30 discount, so I picked it up. I have had very little success making any contacts with it here in Cockysville. A old ham friend of mine also suggested I get a Xiegu X6100 radio, so I picked one up and a trip pod attena mount and a HF/6M attena. I did some work on the 10m bands today, and tried FT-8. I was not very successful on it today, but I did make 1 contact, so I can now say I made my first 10m contact today, and my frist FT-8 contact at the same time. While I can only use 10m and 6m on the X6100 it still is fun to try to get some contacts.
This is the area in my apartment I setup for my radio work.
And this is the attena I was using
Also with setting up to get back on the air, I have setup my mom’s old Short Wave radio. It is a Lafayrttr HA-63 radio, and I have spent sometime just listing to the Short wave radio and seeing what I can find.
