3d Printers
For a bit over 10 years I have wanted to get a 3D printer. Last Sunday I was down at Microcenter and the bambu A1 combo was on sale. So I picked it up with some Filament. I thought it would be fun to maybe try to make some stuff. But what I did not realize or know is that there are hundreds of thousands of premade useful models out there for free. So I have spent the week printing a lot of stuff. I have wanted a protective cover for my x6100 radio for when I leave it in the bag to move around. I have made a desk orginaizer from it. Printing out some free standing game holders. A jar opener. A name plate. and a mount for a mic for my ham radio in the car. I also put together a plaque with my ham radio call sign. I have also tried other prints that did not live up to what I had hoped. Along with all the recomended prints for the printer itself. We are one more step closer to having star trek replicators, true it only plastic stuff and might require some assembly, but I can now download items and print them at home. I also printed out a desk originazer for a friend. On both the desk orginizers I have printed out I have put the name of my branch at the agancy on them (my friend also works there with me)
It turns out that I had the wrong idea of what I could do with a 3d printer, I was thinking it would simply be a fun toy, but I did not realize it would be very useful. We are long past the early adopters, I think we are now in the main stream time for 3d printing (the early main stream, but still main stream area), and I think we might see in a few years more and more none techincal people getting them, as they can be useful. I compare it to the dot-matrix time of home printers in the 80’s the current ones have some limiations, and some things you have to keep in mind, but not something a none-technical person can not deal with, but they will get much better in the future.
I will admit it took about 30 minutes to unbox and put together before I could turn it on and start printing things on it. But tomorrow I have to pick up some more filament, I am thinking 2 more roles of black should do me well, as I am using a lot of black, also another role of red, as I the free standing game holder is for switch games I printed that with the red role.
I originally bought 2 black, 2 white, one green, blue, and red roles, to start with.
