We didn’t start the fire
I saw a post over at unspace and in the comment I posted about the song “We didn’t start the fire” That song covers events from 1940 to 1989. (Here is a link to the lyrics of the song, that has links to the info behind the song) But I am wondering what would be put in the song from 1990 to this year 2005. Please leave a comment and include year.
Here are a few I am thinking of (not in correct order)
2005 Hurricanes (Maybe just name them and list 3 for the year)
2005 Security Leaks (we had two, but the Libby one was in the news more so maybe it should be Leaky Libby)
2004 Ohio this time
2002 Back to Iraq
2001 Terrorists in New York
2000 Hanging Chads
1995 OJ on trial (or maybe 1996 OJ looking for the real murder 😉 )
1994 Presidential Impeachment
1991 Into Iraq
If I get enough stuff, I will see if I can put something together as lyrics for “We did start the fire again” 😉

Instead of “JFK, blown away, what else do I have to say”, use “Natalie Holloway, what else do I have to say”.
Based on your order, I wouldn’t say terrorists in new york, since DC was also affected, maybe just mention Terrorists in USA, but that could be generalized, since McVey was there too, maybe just reference “nine eleven” instead? About “Libby”, say something that rhymes – “Leaking Libby’s broken toe…”, maybe list cloning or terri shiavo? 2003 had swift boat veterans for truth, no? instead of impeachment, say something that would rhyme with the song more “What exactly is sex?” (it could fit into a rhyme). also 1996->1999 – mention the tech boom/crash? maybe ebay, amazon, hey, the microsoft trial, duh! As a techie, I’m shocked you didn’t mention that… or linux! … you should have your geek license suspended.
Well why not Linux, I am looking for big news events, I doubt many average Joe people have even heard of Linux. The to dot bomb would be a good one, also I like your rhyming idea.
Interesting start! I really should try to work something up. Notice that a) BJ accelerates the list as it gets later and b) he seems to focus on cultural. I suspect I’d focus more on science.
Ya, I did notice that, and yes we probably should have some stuff focused on Science, the last few years have got to be rich for that.
