An odd bike tire blow out

Last night I biked up to my friends game night. After I had been there for 1 or 2 hours, with the bike just sitting outside, we hear this loud popping noise. I bikes tire had just popped, and this tire was just put on last month, and had no patches on it. Well when I took it apart, it popped where the valve came out of the tube itself, is where the failure point was. It just does not make much since, because the tire pressure was set at 80psi, and the tires are rated from 55psi to 85psi. The bike was sitting out in the cold, so the air should have been contracting so the pressure should have gone down a bit, yet the tire popped.

Um yeah, only a month old? I’d be looking at my warranty on that one.

    Hi Mike,
That’s a bummer about the tire popping like that. I broke a vale stem once while using a mini-pump, but never had one just pop out of nowhere. Hope you had a spare with you.
Have you had a chance to check out the new REI store on the South Side yet? I made it down there last Sunday, and of course ended up spending money on some winter cycling stuff. They are having a bike clinic this Wednesday Oct. 19th, at 7:00 PM. I think I’m going to check it out, and see if I can learn anything.
    Later,
    Denny

  3. No I did not have a spare, I have been meaning to pick one up, but I had to get a lift home after the game night.
